People are either growing toward God or away from God; there is no fixed, middle position.
Leading God’s People by Christopher Beeley
While this quote is difficult to swallow at times it is nevertheless true at all times. Just like in nature, things are either growing or they are receding with no middle ground. How we long for middle days…those times when we can just “be” and not worry about moving ahead or falling behind.
But notice, Beeley does not say how much we need to be growing; or how fast we need to be moving. I’ve noticed in my life that small and incremental is more powerful than large and exponential. In fact, incremental has often led to the exponential leaps in my faith and rarely has it been the opposite.
I say this to remind me to stay the course in my daily habits and routines of Scripture and prayer. Keep making the daily deposits, however small and unimpressive they are. For these are the things that produce the great harvest at the appropriate time if I will remain patient.
Galatians 6:9 (NRSV)
9 So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up.
I needed this thought…….so difficult to do but so true.
