Before you head off into your weekend, here are three things that I’ve read and been thinking through this week. Hope they are as helpful and challenging for you as they have been for me.
Look for a new regular addition to the blog next week beginning Tuesday called Discipleship by the Numbers. Much like top3 Fridays, this will feature short snippets. But the focus will be on the four spheres of discipleship that all followers of Christ need to consider. More to come on Tuesday!
Have a great weekend!

They taught me that maturity was the ability to live with unresolved problems. They taught me that truth was not going to fit on a bumper sticker, much as I would have liked.
Stitches by Anne Lamott

Memorization – words taken in, digested, and carried by our very cells – may be a more powerful tool against word erosion than any other single practice.
Caring for Words in a Culture of Lies by Marilyn Chandler McEntyre
August seems like a good time to shake up my devotional routine. I’ve been memorizing Scripture for a while but as an add-on component to what I’ve been doing. I’ll be making it the center of my devotional time and allow everything else to flow from there. Why? Good question. I’ve found myself more anxious recently than I have been in a while. Wanting to center my “cells” on words of comfort instead of being carried away by words of worry. I’ll keep you posted.

God places us in institutions, relationships, responsibilities, to teach us and shape us into Christlikeness.
Disappearing Church by Mark Sayers
Could the places we are located be less about our influence on them and more about their influence on us? What is God trying to teach you and me through the places we work, worship, and live? Rather than focusing on changing the places we live, maybe see the ways they can positively shape our lives into the image of Christ for the benefit of others.
