Those who go out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, carrying their sheaves.
Psalm 126:6
The promise is not simply that those who go out weeping will return joyful. The promise is that those who go out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing will return joyful in the harvest.
God desires our growth through our personal involvement along with the final outcome.
So the psalmist says that those bearing the seed to sow return with a harvest. There is no illusion that the weeping seed bearers bring about the harvest…definitely God’s work. But there is a place for their effort in the process nevertheless.
How involved are we in the process? That is not a rhetorical question but a personal one. Are we invested in not only the outcome but the process? Do we remain steadfast in our commitments when we see no fruit? Is our bag full of seed through spiritual practices or empty as we travel the path we are on?
God can choose any way to work, yes. And most often it is through his people and their work in his name by his power for his glory.
