You then, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus

2 Timothy 2:1 [NRSV]

I read this yesterday during my devotions and it stuck with me that Paul tells Timothy to be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus…

It’s not the grace FROM Jesus. It’s not the grace AROUND Jesus.

It’s the grace IN Jesus.

Rather than waiting for a divine handout, Paul encourages Timothy to run to Jesus and participate in the grace that is in his life. That means Jesus must be willing to share and must be willing to receive us.

This passage is a clear encouragement for us to participate in the means of grace regularly, perhaps even continually as through prayer.

The grace of Christ is available to us. Will we align our lives in such a way as to actively take part? That is the question.
