What does it mean?

Not sure if you can tell from this picture what was written. “Country Home Cleaning”. This sounds fine and good until you realize we live in a city!

Got me thinking. What messages dies the church send that don’t make sense to the rest of the world?

Lose your life to find it.

Last will be first.

Jesus died so we can live.

All of these and many others sounds right on to us in the faith. But to others?

That brings me to the expectations we place on visitors to church. Are we creating enough free space for them to live into an understanding of God? Or do we expect then to get it from day one?

I'm one of the pastors at First United Methodist Church in Lexington, Kentucky where I've served for the past thirteen years. The sub-title of this blog is "Grace is no accident" which happens to be the defining reality of my life. God's grace (gift) is the reason we have breath in our lungs and hope in our hearts.
