More Atheists Shout It From the Rooftops – NYTimes.com

Interesting that an atheist group in Charleston, SC is promoting itself.  It is inviting people to gathering and are even hosting a picnic for families.  This to me is fascinating.  And it is a wonderful example of the need for acceptance and care in our lives.

My favorite time of Sunday are those few minutes prior to the service beginning.  If everything is under control (which is rare), I enjoy spending time with folks while they are taking their seats and settling in.  I am constantly being reminded that this time of handshaking and hugging and conversation may overshadow any sermon I may give.  And it is not only me, but so many others who take the time to notice those around them and reach out.

We so underestimate a handshake and a hug.  We tend to discount a genuine hello and a few moments of interaction.  My encouragement for us this week is to take a moment and connect with someone else.  It might make all the difference in the world for someone.
