The tag line to this blogsite is “More Questions than Answers”. I believe that mere information doled out is a good way to get facts and figures out, but in the end it normally leaves us a bit short when it comes to spiritual matters. For I believe that transformation comes through wrestling with questions that pertain to our lives.

Why did Jesus speak in parables that were often too difficult for most people to figure out? Perhaps it was to make people dig for the truth. Digging and working and wrestling with questions about life, God, relationships, etc., is the way we come to understand, implement, and therefore be changed by the truth. An interesting point that Brian McLaren makes in his book The Secret Message of Jesus is that for those unwilling to dig and wrestling with trying to understand Jesus’ parables, they did not discover the life changing truth contained in Jesus’ words. Seems rather harsh doesn’t it? Why didn’t Jesus just speak plainly to the people as so often the disciples requested?

Consider Matthew 7:7, “Ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened…” Or how about Proverbs 8:17, ” I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.” Or even Jeremiah 29:13, “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” Over and over again, God conveys to us that seeking is the key to finding. Without having to search, there is something lost in the translation of the truth. Without struggling with questions, we are just information collectors that rarely grow in our faith. We must approach our faith journey as children who do not know all the ways of the world but who are inquisitive, full of trust, and willing to learn from a beloved Teacher.

So in response to what I hear Scripture saying in particular through Jesus’ teaching, this blogsite is my attempt to share in an open and candid way the questions that I am struggling with in my own life. I do this as a way to grow personally in my spiritual journey. I also do this because we are fellow sojourners who stand in need of one another. Maybe we can struggle together a bit and help each other along the way.
