Word for the day

“Tell me, what is it that you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”—Mary Oliver

NAS Joshua 24:15 “And if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

Choose this day. Choose wisely.

Remember: This life does matter. Your choices matter. You matter. I matter. We matter.

No excuses.

But also remember: We do not live this life alone. God is fully functioning within our lives. God is fully embracing our society.

Choose you this day. Will you serve the gods of your appetites? Will you serve the gods of your attitudes? Will you serve your pride?

OR

Will you serve the God of Abraham, Jacob and Isaac? The God of Sarah, Rebekah, and Mary Magdelene. The uncreated, timeless Creator of the Universe.

Choose you this day.

I'm one of the pastors at First United Methodist Church in Lexington, Kentucky where I've served for the past thirteen years. The sub-title of this blog is "Grace is no accident" which happens to be the defining reality of my life. God's grace (gift) is the reason we have breath in our lungs and hope in our hearts.
