Here is a new thought that I want to explore over the next couple of weeks…
Bookstores on every corner. Newspapers and magazines line the shelves of every store. MSNBC and CNN spew 24/7. Internet and Blogosphere produces information as well as reports it. Books on tape. IPODs that hold weeks worth of information. My point is this…we have a lot of information and let’s face it, knowledge at the tips of our fingers. It has never been easier to become an “informed” person about a given topic.
Here is my question: Is our knowledge transforming us? Is it changing our actions or are we simply the same people who can now answer questions on Jeopardy because of all the stuff we read and hear?
The book of James tells us that “faith without works is dead.” I want to carry that thought to knowledge as well. “Knowledge without transformation” is a waste of time! Why would we spend time learning and exploring something without being able to use this knowledge to make our lives (or someone else’s life) better?
Knowledge is a means to an end, it is not an end. More to come.
