Crosswalk.com – Matthew 5:1 – 10

Matthew’s gospel doesn’t get any better than the Sermon on the Mount. In fact, the first ten verses (Beatitudes) are some great meditational thoughts. If you look closely, you see that God is never more close to us than when we are in need. God is never more involved in our lives than when we have nowhere else to turn. God is never more patient with us than when we give up beating our head against the wall.

Listen closely and you hear Jesus say, “at the end of you, there I am”, “in the abyss, there I am”, “in your loss, there I am”.

Our souls are only so big. They can be filled with us or with God. And the beauty of this simple truth is this: God allows you and me to decide the ratio.
